A passage of play from the first Celebratory Cricket Match for the John Arlott Cup to be held annually at New Alresford.
John Arlott's oldest friend, the ageless Leo Harrison. 8,854 runs, 681 dismissals in a career lasting from 1939 to 1966 and very much the guest of honour at this occasion.
Now that's what I call a cake! Baked especially for the occasion and it was delicious. Behind it is the John Arlott Cup that will be awarded to the winner of the annual Celebratory Cricket Match.

The Cricket Society is delighted to have majority funded a plaque which has been set in place on John Arlott's home of 20 years, The Old Sun, New Alresford, Hampshire at a ceremony on 21st June 2009.
Whilst there are commemorations on John's birthplace in Basingstoke and in Alderney where he died, this plaque recognises the place where he felt most at home and also the place that most cricket-lovers associate him with.
A full report of the occasion will feature in the September 2009 Bulletin. The Cricket Society wishes to thank the Alresford Town Partnership for their organisation of the day itself and for all the hard work leading up to the ceremony. We are particularly grateful to Dr. Nigel Paterson. who both had the original idea for the plaque and put two years hard work into making the idea a reality.
